Great Ways to Experience Music on a Daily Basis

No matter who you are or where you come from, music is a daily part of life. Whether you listen to it in the car on a daily commute or groove while you're working, studying, cleaning or cooking, you can rely on songs from your favorite artists to boost your mood.

Even better, you can enjoy music in many ways beyond just plugging in your headphones and tuning out the world. Let's take a look at some of the best ways to enhance your daily listening experience.

Listen While Getting Ready

Even if you had a good night's sleep, getting out of bed to go to work or school can be a major drag. It can be so hard to motivate yourself to get up and move in the morning, especially if you have a really early start.

Listening to your favorite artists or songs as you get ready for the day can help. Try choosing an upbeat song or playlist to listen to while you do your hair or get dressed. It can certainly put you in a good mood before you even step out the door.

Cooking in the Kitchen

Depending on your love of cooking and your actual skills, stepping foot into the kitchen can either be really fun or a truly dreaded task. The process of meal prepping is much more enjoyable when you have your favorite tunes playing in the background.

Whether you're cutting up some peppers to spice up your favorite dish or mixing ingredients in a bowl, you can bet that music will help you stay focused on the task at hand. Just don't get carried away and start dancing around with a knife in your hand!

Live Shows

Going to concerts or other events that feature musicians or groups is a great way to experience more music. Seeing an act live on stage gives you a different perspective and a more personal feeling experience with an artist as he or she performs. You may even learn more about the inspiration behind some of your favorite songs.

Concerts also open the door for more social encounters. You can go to concerts with family and friends for a fun night out or even a fun date. You may even find new friends that love music as much as you do.

Instrumental Music

Taking a minute to listen to instrumental music can be a very interesting experience. Because it doesn't have lyrics, the music isn't telling you exactly how to feel with words. It allows listeners to come up with their own perception of the purpose behind the music and develop their own emotions about it.

Listening to instrumental music may make it a little easier to focus on studying as well, particularly if you turn on classical music. Interestingly, a paper in the American Psychological Association journal Evolutionary Behavioral Sciences documented the discovery that highly intelligent people apparently prefer to listen to instrumental music.

Street Performances

If you live in a large city, it's very likely you will come across street performers. Many of them sing, dance or play an instrument, and it's all set to music. The musical talent of these performers often attracts a big audience, which can lead to big tips.

This also offers a unique opportunity to experience music in a different way than just plugging in your headphones. You may hear different mixes of songs and brand new interpretations. It's a great way to discover a new artist just by watching from the sidelines.

Random Dance Sessions

Let's face it — life can definitely have its tough days when you feel down and out. Even during the toughest times, music can lighten your mood, especially if you take the time to dance it all out.

After a hard day, blast your favorite upbeat song and dance wildly in your bedroom or living room. A random dance session can help you clear your mind and boost your spirits, even if it's only for a few minutes. It may even give you a little bit more energy to tackle other tasks you have waiting for you.

Play It on Repeat

When you first hear a song, it's possible that it will evoke strong emotions deep inside. It could be feelings of happiness, sadness or even great motivation. It's also possible that you may not feel a thing. You might not even like the track at all.

However, if you take another listen, you may pick up on some metaphors or verbiage that you didn't hear before. You may develop a better understanding of the song than you had after your first listen. You might even start to really love it!

Movie Scores

Everyone knows that musical scores really do enhance — or diminish — movies that hit the big screen. When crafted just right, movie musical scores add fun, excitement and suspense for the audience as they watch the different scenes throughout the flicks.

Later, viewers can download popular songs and sing along or listen to the instrumentals scores that were used. In most cases, movie soundtracks are available for listeners to either purchase in stores or stream and download on their mobile devices. This gives you the chance to relive the awesome moviegoing experience when you listen again to the scores.

Reading Enhancement

Reading a book while sitting in your home or on a trip can be a very relaxing activity. It's always a nice escape to dive into a world other than your own, particularly if you're reading a riveting fiction novel with plenty of interesting twists and turns.

Adding light music in the background can add to the calm atmosphere. It's best to pick music that will still allow you to focus on reading, of course. Classical music or other soft instrumental music is generally ideal, but you should pick the genre that works best for you as you go from chapter to chapter.

Playlists to Fit Your Mood

Every day brings about different emotions in daily life. Some days we're happy, and other days we're sad. Often, we pick music to listen to that goes along with our mood for the day.

Creating playlists on your mobile device is helpful in this regard. With playlists, you can add specific songs from your favorite artists or albums to different lists and keep them all in one place. You can create a list to boost your mood at the beginning of the day or during a workout or make one to express your feelings on a day when you don't feel like cheering up.

Streaming Services

Streaming services are so popular now that it's hard to believe we ever lived without them. If you have a smartphone, you probably have some kind of streaming app on it to listen to music while you're out and about or even sitting at home.

With memberships available for services like Apple Music, Spotify and TIDAL, listeners have access to millions of songs across multiple genres for downloading and streaming. This access is especially convenient when you hear a song on TV, on the radio or at an event and want to hear it again on demand.

USB DAC Amplifier

Quality headphones are a great way to listen to music. However, having a USB DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter) Amplifier enhances your listening experience in a major way. The DAC converts the audio from a digital signal to an analog one.

This small device allows users to plug in their headphones, giving them the best sound quality possible. It does this by boosting the volume of the sound, adding a boost in the bass and offering other equalizer functions. A variety of amplifiers are available, depending on whether they are for desktop or mobile use.

Musicals

While musicals may not be for everyone, they are certainly a great way to experience different types of music. They are often considered a musical genre all on their own, but they also have sub-genres like adventure, drama, horror, etc.

Musicals are a way to see stories on stage, on TV and on the big screen through song and dance. It's not a new concept, and they are very fun and entertaining to watch. Again, many musicals also have soundtracks that can be purchased or streamed so patrons can hear their favorite songs later.

Working Out

Hitting the gym or going outside for a workout can be fun and exciting for some but a huge task for others. Either way, plugging in your headphones and jamming to your favorite songs can help motivate you to get through your workout. That's why so many gyms play music on their loudspeakers.

Listening to music while you're exercising makes it a lot more fun on your journey to a healthier you. It also allows you to zone out other things going on around you so you can focus on your exercises and form.

Cleaning the House

Cleaning up around the house isn't the most fun task, but it has to be done. Everything from washing the dishes to doing laundry is an essential part of maintaining a household. However, listening to your music during this time can help ease the boredom and strain of the physical labor.

Doing mindless chores can sometimes give you time to reflect and be alone with your thoughts. This time can be enhanced by grooving to your favorite tunes or finally checking out a new artist or album. It will also make completing the tasks quicker.

Taking a Nap

Taking a nap and getting some much-needed rest can do wonders for your body. You can also have some interesting (and hopefully peaceful) dreams while you snooze. Music can help add to that calming experience.

In order to help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer, you can use smart devices to play soft tunes. Many phones have timers that will cut off the music after a certain time. Other devices, like the Alexa smart speaker from Amazon, will stop playing music at a predetermined time after you have already fallen asleep.

Road Trips

Road trips up or down the coast, across the country or even just a few hours away can be fun with family and friends. However, they would be less fun and exciting without some good music for the ride.

Music can make the long trip a nice party for everyone in the car. Passengers can add to the fun by passing along their phones to contribute some of their favorite tunes. Grooving to the music helps the ride go by much faster as you travel to your destination.

Journaling Background Music

Journaling is quite calming for the spirit. It gives you a chance to write out your feelings, experiences and thoughts. You can even draw, write poetry or express yourself through pre-determined prompts. Journaling is a great form of self-expression and a valuable time for reflection.

Adding music to your journaling sessions will definitely enhance your writing experience overall. Everyone is different when it comes to their musical choices. However, soothing ballads or instrumental scores in the background may help you focus more and write a little faster as well. It can be very satisfying to add different genres of music to your journaling sessions.

Covers of Your Favorite Tracks

Your favorite artist or song has likely been covered by another artist at some point in time. Covers of existing songs are just remakes from other artists, but they give new artists the opportunity to put their own twists on popular tracks.

Artists can make songs faster or slower and even add their own instruments to remake the song. Listeners frequently fall in love with covers, sometimes even more than the originals! Hearing an old song in a new way can stir up new emotions or reflections and make for a beautiful musical experience.

Shared Playlists

As previously discussed, many streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music allow users to make their own playlists filled with songs to fit their mood. What's even cooler is that users are able to share their playlists publicly with family, friends and followers.

Shared playlists are basically the equivalent of digital mixtapes or mix CDs that couples and friends once gave each other to express their feelings for one another, provide some encouragement or just share some happiness. They can also be used to share music from artists that others may not have heard before.

Out on the Town

When you go out to a bar or club, you expect to hear some pretty great music. After all, what's a party without tunes to dance the night away? If a club has mediocre music, the crowd definitely won't stay for long.

A night out on the town can offer music lovers the opportunity to check out a variety of genres, especially if they are bar hopping with their crew. If you live in or near a big city, you probably have a multitude of places you can choose to go throughout the night.

Learning an Instrument

Another intriguing way to enhance your musical experience is by learning how to play an instrument yourself. Whether you take up the piano, guitar or some other instrument, it requires a strong level of discipline and focus to learn how to read music and then actually play the notes.

Playing an instrument is certainly a unique way to experience music, as you get to actually create your own sound instead of just listening to it. You can play an established musical piece or experiment and create something of your own. Maybe you will have a real talent for it!

Read the Lyrics

While listening to your favorite tracks by different artists, paying specific attention to the words of the songs can be a great way to enhance your listening experience. This can give you greater insight into the purpose of the song, especially if it's a track meant to inspire people.

Reading the lyrics to songs is generally like reading poetry. You can clearly see the words and think through the meaning behind each line. Listeners may not always get that experience when they just listen to a track through their headphones.

Experience New Artists

Although it's easy to stick with the artists you already know and love, what will make your music library even better is opening it up to new voices. Rising artists sometimes offer different vocal tones, lyrics and musical styles than what you typically hear.

Experiencing new artists for the first time may also tap into new emotions and reflections for you. It's also nice to support rising stars who have major talent and deserve to make it big one day in the future. You can say you knew them back when...

New Headphones

People typically use headphones to plug in their music and tune out the outside world. Headphones are great when you want to focus on tasks or need time to think without a lot of environmental noise. However, the sound quality of your music is impacted if the wires short out or the overall quality is poor.

Because of this, wireless headphones are becoming a huge hit. Headphone brands like Beats by Dre and Apple EarPods allow listeners to enjoy quality sound and noise cancellation without any wires attached. This obviously allows you to move around more freely without the risk of damaging any wires.

Music Videos

Watching music videos from your favorite artists is a fun experience. The sets, fashion and choreography that go into the making of music videos lead to a great viewing experience for music lovers. They provide a creative and exciting visual to go along with a song you already love.

Sometimes, watching music videos can give you a better impression or greater appreciation for a song as well. You may start off hating a song, but once you check out the fun visual for it, you could find yourself loving it a bit more.

While on the Job

Working at a 9-to-5 job every day has some chaotic and stressful moments, especially when you feel overloaded with work and meetings. Sadly, for many of us, it's unavoidable. However, listening to music during the day can definitely make your workday a little bit better.

Blasting your favorite tunes in your headphones or behind closed doors will give you energy and focus to get through your daily tasks at work. It may even boost your mood as you go throughout the day, making the day feel like it goes by a little bit faster as well.

Doing Hobbies

It's nice to have a variety of hobbies to do on the side after work. They are another mode of self-expression and relaxation after a long day. Knitting, drawing, gardening and other hobbies can be enhanced by turning on some great tracks in the background.

For many, listening to music helps drive that creative and innovative spark to come up with new ideas for their hobbies. With visual artists, for example, favorite songs may inspire a new piece. That background noise can either be soothing or energetic and can help those with hobbies zone in on what they are doing.

Beach Day

A day at the beach can be an incredibly enjoyable time for family and friends to get together. Everyone can have some tasty barbecue, play games on the beach, build sandcastles and, of course, swim to help beat the heat on a hot summer day.

Having music playing on a wireless speaker in the background makes this experience even better. In general, there's nothing like grooving to some up-tempo tracks, but adding any kind of music to a beach day helps set a lighthearted and fun mood for everyone right from the start.

Moments of Self-Reflection

Self-reflection for both your personal and professional life is vital to making key decisions for yourself. Everyone needs to take a timeout to evaluate his or her individual journey and think about what changes could be made to become better and stronger.

Listening to inspirational and positive tracks for different artists helps with that mission. This music can give you the motivation to grow in your daily life, and it can encourage you to keep going on days when you want to quit. That's the power that music has on us all.
